Drug intelligence / Profile preview
D-PLEX (also known as D-PLEX100) is a localized, long-acting antibiotic formulation developed by PolyPid for the prevention of surgical site infections (SSIs). It consists of the broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic doxycycline encapsulated within PolyPid's proprietary PLEX (Polymer-Lipid Encapsulation matriX) technology. This matrix allows for the controlled, continuous release of high concentrations of doxycycline directly at the surgical site for up to 30 days, effectively eradicating bacteria while maintaining low systemic levels to minimize potential toxicity. D-PLEX is primarily being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials for the prevention of sternal wound infections following cardiac surgery and has also been investigated for the prevention of abdominal surgical site infections.
