Overview

D-Proline is the D-enantiomer of proline, a five-membered cyclic amino acid and a member of the non-proteinogenic amino acids. Unlike L-proline (the naturally occurring form in proteins), D-proline is less common in nature but can be found in certain seeds and microbial systems. It serves as an important chiral intermediate and reagent in asymmetric synthesis for pharmaceuticals—especially antibiotics, antitumor agents, antiviral drugs—and peptide-based drug development. Its unique stereochemistry allows chemists to create molecules with specific biological activities and improved pharmacological profiles. In biological systems, it participates in some metabolic pathways and may influence protein structure when incorporated into peptides[1][4][5][7].
