Overview

D-Stat Flowable Hemostat is a combination biologic-device hemostatic agent originally developed by Vascular Solutions and now owned by Teleflex. It is composed of bovine-derived thrombin (5,000 units) and bovine collagen (200mg), which are mixed with a buffered diluent containing calcium chloride and tromethamine to create a flowable suspension. The product is indicated for the control of bleeding from vascular access sites and percutaneous catheters, as well as for sealing tissue tracts and reducing clinically relevant hematoma formation in high-risk anticoagulated patients undergoing pulse generator (pacemaker or ICD) implantation. Its mechanism of action is dual-pronged: the thrombin component enzymatically converts fibrinogen into fibrin to initiate clot formation, while the collagen component promotes platelet aggregation and provides a structural matrix to facilitate hemostasis. It is biocompatible, non-pyrogenic, and intended to be left in situ after application.
