D10 is a first-in-class latency-reversing agent (LRA) that specifically targets the HIV-1 Tat viral protein. Developed by researchers at the University Hospital, Montpellier, D10 is designed to reverse HIV latency by activating viral transcription in dormant, infected cells. This approach is a key component of the 'shock-and-kill' strategy, which aims to wake up latent HIV ('shock') so that the infected cells can be recognized and eliminated by the immune system or through viral cytopathic effects ('kill'). D10 has demonstrated the ability to activate the virus in laboratory cell models and is currently being evaluated in ex vivo studies using blood samples from HIV-positive individuals on antiretroviral therapy (ART) to assess its efficacy in real-world target cells.
