Drug intelligence / Profile preview
D23A is a 3D-printed, ileum-targeted oral tablet formulation of budesonide developed by Triastek for the treatment of IgA nephropathy (IgAN). Utilizing Triastek's proprietary Melt Extrusion Deposition (MED®) and 3D Microstructure for Intestine Targeting (3DμS®-IT) platforms, the drug is designed to bypass the stomach and upper intestine, releasing the active corticosteroid specifically in the ileum. This site-specific delivery targets the Peyer's patches, which are key sites of mucosal immune response, to provide local immunomodulatory effects and reduce the production of galactose-deficient IgA1 (Gd-IgA1), a key driver of IgAN progression. In March 2024, the Chinese National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) granted IND clearance for D23A, marking it as a significant application of 3D printing technology in targeted drug delivery.
