Overview

D9-methyl-alpha-glycerophosphocholine (D9-GPC) is a stable isotope-labeled (deuterium-labeled) form of alpha-glycerophosphocholine, a naturally occurring choline-containing phospholipid found in breast milk. It is used as an investigational tracer in pharmacokinetic and metabolic studies to track the distribution and utilization of choline. Specifically, it has been studied by the Universitätsklinikum Tübingen in Germany to evaluate choline metabolism in preterm infants (28–32 weeks gestation). The compound serves as a labeled choline supplement, allowing researchers to assess the kinetics of D9-choline, D9-betaine, and D9-phosphatidylcholine (D9-PC) in plasma. This research aims to optimize choline supplementation strategies to support neurodevelopment and organ maturation in infants with nutritional deficiencies.
