DA is a non-specific abbreviation used in various clinical contexts to refer to different drug combinations. In oncology, it commonly refers to a combination of daunorubicin and cytarabine, used in chemotherapy regimens like DA-EPOCH-R for conditions such as high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome, acute myeloid leukemia, and high-grade B-cell lymphomas. Daunorubicin is an anthracycline topoisomerase II inhibitor, and cytarabine is an antimetabolite that inhibits DNA synthesis. Separately, 'DA' also refers to a two-drug regimen of diethylcarbamazine and albendazole, an anthelmintic combination used for treating lymphatic filariasis. Diethylcarbamazine acts by immobilizing microfilariae and sensitizing them to the host's immune response, while albendazole inhibits tubulin polymerization and glucose uptake in parasitic worms.
