Overview

DA-4001C is an investigational topical formulation of finasteride developed by Dong-A ST for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia (male pattern hair loss). Finasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that works by blocking the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the primary androgen responsible for the miniaturization of hair follicles in genetically susceptible individuals. By utilizing a topical delivery system, DA-4001C is designed to provide localized therapeutic effects in the scalp while potentially reducing the systemic absorption and associated side effects typically seen with oral finasteride administration. The drug has been evaluated in Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials, including a proof-of-concept study (NCT02824380) that compared its efficacy and safety to 5% topical minoxidil.
