Overview

DA001 is a low-concentration (0.01%) atropine sulfate ophthalmic solution developed by Yuanda Life Sciences (Wuhan) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Grandpharma (China Grand Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Holdings). It is specifically designed to delay the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children and adolescents. Atropine is a non-selective muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist. While the exact mechanism by which low-dose atropine slows myopia progression is not fully understood, it is hypothesized to involve the inhibition of axial elongation of the eye by acting on muscarinic receptors in the retina, choroid, or sclera, rather than through cycloplegia. DA001 is currently undergoing Phase III clinical trials in China to evaluate its efficacy and safety in pediatric populations, aiming to provide a standardized pharmaceutical option for myopia control.
