Overview

DAAOI-1 is a small molecule inhibitor of the enzyme D-amino acid oxidase (DAAO). By inhibiting DAAO, it elevates synaptic concentrations of D-amino acids, such as D-serine, which are co-agonists at the NMDA receptor. This mechanism is hypothesized to enhance NMDA receptor function and has been investigated as an adjunctive treatment for chronic schizophrenia. The drug has undergone clinical evaluation in this context[1][2].
