**Dabigatran etexilate + clopidogrel** is an oral combination therapy of two antithrombotic agents. Dabigatran etexilate is a prodrug converted in vivo to dabigatran, a specific, competitive, reversible direct thrombin inhibitor, primarily affecting the final step of the coagulation pathway by inhibiting thrombin and preventing fibrin formation[2][3]. Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet agent, a prodrug metabolized to an active thiol metabolite that irreversibly binds to the P2Y12 ADP receptor on platelets, inhibiting ADP-mediated platelet aggregation[4]. The combination is used in clinical settings where there is a need to reduce both thrombin-mediated clotting and platelet aggregation, such as for prevention of stroke and embolism, particularly in atrial fibrillation, or after certain interventions. Concomitant administration with clinically relevant doses shows only minor pharmacokinetic interactions—dabigatran exposure increases transiently with high-dose clopidogrel loading, but without substantial impact on clinical pharmacodynamic markers or bleeding time, compared to monotherapy[1][3][5]. The combination increases the antithrombotic effect but may also pose increased bleeding risk relative to single-agent use[1].
