Overview

This is a **combination drug** consisting of dabigatran etexilate and quinidine sulfate. Dabigatran etexilate is a direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) and reversible direct thrombin inhibitor (DTI) indicated for the prevention and treatment of thromboembolic events such as stroke and systemic embolism in non-valvular atrial fibrillation, as well as treatment and secondary prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Dabigatran etexilate is a prodrug, metabolized to dabigatran, which inhibits the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin by thrombin, impairing the coagulation cascade[2][5]. Quinidine sulfate is a class Ia antiarrhythmic, blocking sodium and potassium channels, indicated primarily for the management of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias[3]. This combination is not an established marketed product but is of clinical interest due to a significant pharmacokinetic drug-drug interaction: quinidine increases plasma concentrations of dabigatran by inhibiting P-glycoprotein, resulting in increased bleeding risk[1][2][3][4]. Coadministration is clinically significant and can lead to serious adverse effects such as uncontrolled bleeding and persistent coagulopathy, especially in patients with renal impairment[1]. No unique brand or combination preparation under this exact combination is approved; this description covers the combination as a clinical entity.
