Drug intelligence / Profile preview
dabigatran vs. rivaroxaban-Boehringer Ingelheim-atrial fibrillation refers to a retrospective observational study, supported by Boehringer Ingelheim, that compared the safety and effectiveness of three direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs): dabigatran (Pradaxa), rivaroxaban (Xarelto), and apixaban (Eliquis). The study utilized real-world data from the US Department of Defense (DoD) Military Health System to evaluate treatment-naive patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). Dabigatran is a small molecule direct thrombin inhibitor (Factor IIa), while rivaroxaban and apixaban are small molecule Factor Xa inhibitors. All three agents are indicated for the reduction of stroke and systemic embolism risk in patients with NVAF. The research focused on comparing the incidence of thromboembolic events and major bleeding complications among these standard-dose anticoagulants in clinical practice.
