Dabupi Decoction

Dabupi Decoction (DBPD) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula originating from the ancient Dunhuang medical text "Fu Xing Jue Visceral to Drug law legend," with over 1,000 years of clinical use. It is primarily used for diseases related to the spleen and stomach, including gastrointestinal disorders such as ulcerative colitis and constipation. Recent studies have demonstrated that DBPD alleviates intestinal injury and colitis symptoms by activating glutathione metabolism—thereby reducing oxidative damage—and inhibiting the JAK-STAT pathway to mitigate inflammatory responses. The decoction contains several bioactive compounds identified as rhein acid, isoquercitrin, curcumin, and zeaxanthin. In animal models (flies and mice), oral administration improved survival rates, reduced histopathological damage in the intestine, restored inflammatory factor expression levels, repaired acid-base homeostasis in the gut, inhibited excessive proliferation of intestinal stem cells, and protected intestinal epithelial cells[1]. Additionally, it has been reported effective for treating qi stagnation constipation[2].
