Overview

Dabuyin Wan is a classical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation presented as a dark brownish-black water-honeyed pill. It is a multi-ingredient herbal preparation composed of five primary ingredients: Radix Rehmanniae Preparata (Shudi Huang), Rhizoma Anemarrhenae (Zhimu), Cortex Phellodendri (Huangbai), processed Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis (Guiban), and Medulla Spinalis Suis (Zhuizhui). In TCM practice, it is used to 'nourish yin and lower fire,' and is indicated for conditions involving yin deficiency with flaming-up of fire, manifested by symptoms such as daily recurring fever, night sweating, cough, hemoptysis, tinnitus, and seminal emission. Modern research has investigated its potential in treating central precocious puberty (CPP) and early puberty in children. The proposed mechanism involves the down-regulation of Kiss-1/GPR54 mRNA expression in the hypothalamus, which inhibits the synthesis and release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), thereby suppressing the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis.
