Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Daemonorops draco Blume (DD), commonly known as dragon's blood, is a resinous secretion obtained from the fruit of the *Daemonorops draco* palm tree. Traditionally utilized in Korean and Chinese medicine for its analgesic, antibacterial, and wound-healing properties, recent research has focused on its potential antineoplastic effects. In preclinical studies involving acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cell lines, DD has been shown to induce apoptosis through the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the activation of the miR-216b/c-Jun/CHOP signaling pathway. This process involves the reduction of mitochondrial membrane potential and the activation of executioner caspases such as caspase-3. The cytotoxic effects of DD can be reversed by antioxidants like N-acetyl-L-cysteine, confirming the central role of oxidative stress in its mechanism of action.
