Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dai dai flower extract is a botanical extract derived from the flowers of Citrus × aurantium L. var. amara, known in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) as Dai Dai Hua or bitter orange flower. The extract is rich in flavonoids, volatile oils (notably linalool, linalyl acetate, limonene), coumarins, and alkaloids (such as synephrine). In TCM, it is used to regulate the flow of Qi, relieve cough, treat constipation, abdominal pain, chest congestion, and phlegm, and promote digestion[2][6]. Modern studies suggest it possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, whitening (through inhibition of tyrosinase and melanin synthesis), antitumor, antibacterial, antiviral, and possible sedative-hypnotic effects[3][5][6]. Its mechanism involves the inhibition of tyrosinase, reduction of melanin synthesis, antioxidative action via increased flavonoids/polyphenols, mild adrenergic activity through protoalkaloids like synephrine, and modulation of neurotransmission possibly via GABAergic pathways[5]. Used in dietary supplements, traditional herbal formulations, aroma oils, and topical/cosmetic products[4][5][6].
