Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Daichi No Kampo Benpiyaku is an over-the-counter (OTC) Kampo (traditional Japanese herbal) medicine developed and marketed by Alinamin Pharmaceutical for the relief of constipation and its associated symptoms, such as abdominal bloating, acne, and loss of appetite. The formulation is based on the traditional Kampo recipe Daio-Kanzo-To (Daiokanzoto), which consists of a combination of two key botanical ingredients: rhubarb (specifically "Shinshu Rhubarb") and licorice (specifically "Miyako Licorice"). The active components, particularly sennosides from rhubarb, are metabolized by intestinal bacteria into rheinanthrone, which stimulates peristalsis in the large intestine to promote smooth bowel movements. Licorice provides anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effects to mitigate abdominal discomfort. It is typically administered orally before bedtime to produce gentle, natural-feeling bowel movements the following morning.
