Overview

Daidzein is a naturally occurring isoflavone found primarily in soybeans and other legumes. It acts as a non-steroidal phytoestrogen, binding to estrogen receptors and mimicking some effects of endogenous estrogens. Daidzein exhibits a broad range of pharmacological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antidiabetic, neuroprotective, nephroprotective, and cardiovascular protective effects. Its mechanism involves modulation of estrogen receptor activity as well as influencing various signaling pathways such as inhibition of pro-inflammatory mediators (e.g., TNF-α), cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway phosphorylation blockade, upregulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), and increased adiponectin expression[1][3][4][5]. Daidzein is widely used as a dietary supplement for its potential health benefits but is also being investigated in clinical trials for therapeutic applications in cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes complications, osteoporosis, skin disorders and cardiovascular conditions[1][3].
