Overview
Daihuangfuzi Decoction (DHFZD) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula originating from the Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber (Jin Gui Yao Lue). It traditionally consists of three primary herbs: Rheum palmatum (Dahuang), Aconitum carmichaelii (Fuzi), and Asarum sieboldii (Xixin). In modern clinical practice, it is primarily investigated for its effects on gastrointestinal motility and systemic inflammation, particularly in the context of sepsis-induced acute gastrointestinal dysfunction (AGD) and acute pancreatitis. The formula's mechanism of action involves promoting intestinal peristalsis, protecting the intestinal mucosal barrier, and modulating inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-6. It is often administered orally or via enema in critical care settings to alleviate intestinal paralysis and systemic inflammatory response syndrome.
