Overview
Daiobotanpito is a traditional Japanese Kampo medicine composed of five crude drugs: Rhubarb (Rheum rhabarbarum), Moutan Bark (Paeonia suffruticosa), Peach Kernel (Prunus persica), Winter Melon Seed (Benincasa hispida), and Mirabilite (Sodium sulfate). It is traditionally indicated for inflammatory conditions in the lower abdomen, including acute appendicitis and pelvic inflammatory disease. In modern clinical practice, it is being investigated for its efficacy in treating colonic diverticulitis. The mechanism of action involves anti-inflammatory effects, improvement of local blood circulation, and laxative properties that reduce intraluminal pressure in the colon. Research supported by the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) has focused on its potential to prevent the recurrence of diverticulitis and reduce the need for antibiotics.
