Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Damoctocog alfa pegol is a site-specifically PEGylated, extended half-life recombinant Factor VIII (FVIII) concentrate used for the treatment and prophylaxis of bleeding in patients with hemophilia A (congenital Factor VIII deficiency)[1][3][7]. It is produced by recombinant DNA technology in Baby Hamster Kidney (BHK) cells and features a B-domain deleted human coagulation Factor VIII protein that has been conjugated at a specific site with polyethylene glycol (PEG), which prolongs its half-life by reducing clearance from circulation[1][5]. The drug temporarily replaces the missing or deficient FVIII, enabling normal blood clotting. Damoctocog alfa pegol is indicated for on-demand treatment, perioperative management, and routine prophylaxis to reduce bleeding frequency in previously treated patients aged 12 years and older[3][4][7]. Its efficacy and safety have been demonstrated in clinical trials such as PROTECT VIII[3], showing reduced annual bleeding rates and fewer infusions compared to standard therapies[6].
