Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dan-Chi-Liu-Wei is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula composed of the "Liu Wei Di Huang Wan" (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill) base supplemented with Moutan Cortex (Dan Pi) and Gardeniae Fructus (Zhi Zi). It is primarily investigated as an adjunctive therapy for patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) who are undergoing conventional treatment with glucocorticoids and immunomodulators. The formula is intended to help stabilize disease activity and potentially facilitate the tapering of steroid dosages. Clinical research indicates that the combination is generally safe and may have a borderline effect on reducing the SLE Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI) score without adversely affecting liver or renal function, although further large-scale trials are required to confirm its efficacy in steroid tapering.
