Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dan Zhi Jiang Tang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Chinese Medicine for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The name "Dan Zhi" refers to its primary components, *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Dan Shen) and *Hirudo* (Shui Zhi/Leech), which are traditionally used to invigorate blood and resolve stasis. The formula is specifically indicated for patients presenting with the TCM syndrome of deficiency of Qi and Yin and blood stasis. It aims to lower blood glucose levels, improve insulin resistance, and potentially prevent diabetic microvascular complications by improving blood rheology and reducing inflammation. It is typically administered in a capsule dosage form.
