Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Danacid is a branded antacid medication developed and manufactured by Dana Pharmaceuticals, primarily for the Nigerian market. The oral tablet formulation is a combination of magnesium trisilicate (250 mg) and dried aluminium hydroxide (120 mg). It functions by chemically neutralizing hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which leads to a reduction in gastric acidity and a decrease in the activity of the proteolytic enzyme pepsin. Danacid is indicated for the symptomatic management of various acid-related gastrointestinal conditions, including hyperacidity, heartburn, dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease, and reflux oesophagitis. While also available as a suspension with a slightly different formulation (including simethicone), the tablet remains a core product in the company's gastrointestinal portfolio.
