Overview

Dang gui bu xue tang (DGBXT) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula consisting of Radix Astragali (Huang Qi) and Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Dang Gui) in a 5:1 ratio. In the context of Gansu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is utilized for treating knee osteoarthritis and degenerative bone and joint diseases. The formula is designed to tonify Qi and generate blood. Pharmacologically, it exhibits anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and chondroprotective properties by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-1β and TNF-α, and reducing the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) that degrade joint cartilage. It also promotes microcirculation and supports bone metabolism.
