Overview

Danggui Buxue Tang is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal decoction first described in 1247 AD by Li Dongyuan. It consists of two herbs—Astragali Radix (roots of Astragalus membranaceus) and Angelicae Sinensis Radix (roots of Angelica sinensis)—in a weight ratio of 5:1. The formula is used to enrich "Blood" and nourish "Qi" according to TCM theory, with modern research supporting its use for stimulating hematopoietic function, exhibiting estrogenic properties, accelerating bone regeneration, promoting immune system activity, protecting cardiovascular health, and enhancing angiogenesis. Major active ingredients include astragaloside IV, calycosin, formononetin (from Astragali Radix), Z-ligustilide and ferulic acid (from Angelicae Sinensis Radix). It is commonly prescribed for women suffering from menopausal symptoms but has broader applications in age-related diseases[1][2][5].
