Danggui Liuhuang Decoction (当归六黄汤) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula first recorded in the Lanshi Mizang (Secret Record of Orchid Chamber) by Li Dongyuan. It is traditionally indicated for yin deficiency with internal heat, manifesting as night sweats, fever, and a red tongue. The formula consists of seven herbal components: *Angelica sinensis* (Danggui), *Rehmannia glutinosa* (Shengdi), *Rehmannia glutinosa praeparata* (Shudi), *Coptis chinensis* (Huanglian), *Scutellaria baicalensis* (Huangqin), *Phellodendron amurense* (Huangbai), and *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi). Modern clinical research, such as trials conducted by the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, explores its efficacy in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus and diabetic complications like lower extremity arterial disease (LEAD). Its pharmacological profile includes anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and metabolic regulatory effects, potentially mediated through the modulation of glucose metabolism and vascular endothelial protection.
