Danggui Liuhuang Tang

Danggui Liuhuang Tang is a traditional Chinese herbal formula composed of seven herbs: Angelica sinensis (Danggui), Astragalus membranaceus (Huangqi), Rehmannia glutinosa (Shengdihuang and Shudihuang), Phellodendron amurense (Huangbai), Coptis chinensis (Huanglian), and Scutellaria baicalensis (Huangqin). It has a long history of use in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for treating yin deficiency with internal heat, which clinically manifests as night sweats and hot flashes. Currently, it is being evaluated in Phase II/III clinical trials by the Chang Gung Medical Foundation in Taiwan for the relief of chemotherapy-induced side effects, specifically hot flashes and menopausal-like symptoms, in breast cancer patients receiving adjuvant chemotherapy. The formula is thought to exert its effects through a complex interplay of phytochemicals that may modulate thermoregulation and hormonal balance, although specific molecular biological targets have not been definitively identified in the context of these clinical trials.
