Overview

Danirixin is a selective, competitive, and reversible antagonist of the C-X-C chemokine receptor type 2 (CXCR2), also known as the interleukin 8B receptor. It is a small molecule developed primarily as an anti-inflammatory agent. By blocking CXCR2, danirixin inhibits neutrophil chemotaxis and activation in response to inflammatory signals such as CXCL8 (IL-8), thereby reducing neutrophil-driven inflammation. The drug has been investigated for use in diseases characterized by excessive neutrophilic inflammation, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), influenza virus infections, and respiratory syncytial virus infections. Clinical trials have reached phase II for influenza virus infections but development for COPD has been discontinued[1][4][5][7].
