Overview
Danqi Tongmai is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) botanical drug candidate developed by the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM), Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is formulated as a tablet and is primarily indicated for the treatment of chronic stable angina pectoris, specifically targeting the blood stasis syndrome phenotype. The preparation is derived from a combination of herbal extracts, typically including *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Danshen) and *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi). Its therapeutic effects are attributed to its multi-target approach, which includes improving myocardial ischemia, enhancing coronary blood flow, inhibiting platelet aggregation, and providing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory protection to the vascular endothelium. The drug has been evaluated in Phase II clinical trials in China to assess its efficacy and safety in reducing angina frequency and improving exercise tolerance.
