Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Danshen Capsule is a traditional herbal medicinal product (tHMP) containing a dry extract of *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Danshen or Red Sage). Developed by the Tasly Group with regulatory assistance from SU BioMedicine, it achieved a significant milestone in 2016 by becoming the first Chinese herbal medicine to be registered under the European Union's simplified registration procedure for tHMPs in the Netherlands. The product is indicated for the symptomatic relief of minor heart-related issues, such as chest pain (angina-like symptoms), based on its long-standing traditional use in Chinese medicine to promote blood circulation and resolve blood stasis. Its pharmacological profile is characterized by the presence of tanshinones and salvianolic acids, which contribute to its cardioprotective effects through vasodilation, inhibition of platelet aggregation, and antioxidant activity.
