Danshu

Danshu is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapeutic, typically formulated as a capsule, containing peppermint oil (Mentha haplocalyx oil) as its primary active ingredient. It is widely utilized in China for the management of biliary tract disorders, including chronic cholecystitis, cholelithiasis (gallstones), and the prevention of stone recurrence following endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). The drug's efficacy is largely attributed to L-menthol, which acts as a calcium channel antagonist to relax biliary smooth muscle and the sphincter of Oddi, thereby facilitating bile flow and the passage of stones. Additionally, Danshu possesses choleretic properties, increasing the secretion and flow of bile to reduce biliary stasis and prevent stone formation.
