Overview
Danzhi Xiaoyao Tablets is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation, also known as Jiawei Xiaoyao, which is a modification of the classic Xiaoyao San formula. It contains nine herbal ingredients: Moutan Cortex (Paeonia suffruticosa), Gardeniae Fructus (Gardenia jasminoides), Bupleuri Radix (Bupleurum chinense), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Angelica sinensis), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Paeonia lactiflora), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Atractylodes macrocephala), Poria (Poria cocos), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Glycyrrhiza uralensis), and Menthae Haplocalycis Herba (Mentha haplocalyx). The formula is traditionally used to soothe the liver, clear heat, and resolve depression. In modern clinical research, it is being evaluated for its efficacy in treating burning mouth syndrome (BMS), particularly in patients characterized by qi depression with fire and deficiency. Its pharmacological effects are attributed to the modulation of the neuroendocrine-immune system, including the regulation of monoamine neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine, and the inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and IL-6.
