Dapaconazole is an investigational small molecule antifungal agent that has been studied primarily for the treatment of tinea pedis (athlete's foot)[1][3]. It belongs to the azole class of antifungals and is structurally related to other imidazole/triazole compounds. Like other azoles, its presumed mechanism of action involves inhibition of fungal ergosterol biosynthesis by targeting a cytochrome P450-dependent enzyme involved in sterol synthesis (most likely lanosterol 14α-demethylase), thereby disrupting fungal cell membrane integrity. Dapaconazole has reached up to phase III clinical trials for tinea pedis[3].
