Overview

Dapagliflozin + linagliptin is a fixed-dose combination of two oral antidiabetic small molecules, used for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. Dapagliflozin is a selective sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that reduces renal glucose reabsorption, leading to increased urinary glucose excretion and lower blood glucose levels. Linagliptin is a competitive, reversible inhibitor of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), which increases the levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), resulting in increased insulin release and decreased glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner, improving glycemic control with a low risk of hypoglycemia[1][2][3][5][6]. The combination is indicated in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus for whom metformin and/or other antidiabetic agents do not provide adequate glycemic control or are not appropriate.
