Overview

Dapagliflozin + omega-3 carboxylic acids is an investigational combination therapy consisting of dapagliflozin, a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, and omega-3 carboxylic acids, a formulation of free fatty acids primarily composed of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Dapagliflozin lowers blood glucose by inhibiting SGLT2 in the proximal renal tubules, reducing glucose reabsorption and increasing urinary glucose excretion. Omega-3 carboxylic acids exert lipid-lowering effects by reducing hepatic triglyceride synthesis and promoting fatty acid oxidation. The combination has been studied for its potential to reduce liver fat content in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), showing significant reductions in liver fat compared to monotherapies[1][2][3].
