Overview
Dapagliflozin + saxagliptin + metformin is an oral fixed-dose combination medication indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It combines three antihyperglycemic agents: dapagliflozin (a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that decreases renal glucose reabsorption), saxagliptin (a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that increases endogenous incretin levels and thus enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion while decreasing glucagon secretion), and metformin (a biguanide that primarily decreases hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity). The combination targets multiple mechanisms involved in hyperglycemia. This fixed-dose tablet was marketed under brand names such as Qternmet XR and Qtrilmet but is now discontinued in major markets.
