Overview
dapoxetine + sildenafil is a combination therapy being evaluated for the treatment of premature ejaculation (PE), specifically in patients who do not respond to dapoxetine monotherapy. Dapoxetine is a short-acting selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases the time to ejaculation by inhibiting the serotonin transporter, thereby increasing serotonin's action at the post-synaptic cleft. Sildenafil is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor that enhances erectile function and may potentially reduce the refractory period and performance anxiety associated with PE. This specific combination is being studied by Al-Azhar University in a randomized, single-blind, placebo-controlled trial to assess its efficacy and safety in improving intravaginal ejaculatory latency time (IELT) and patient-reported outcomes.
