Overview

CJ-40001 is a biosimilar of darbepoetin alfa developed for the treatment of renal anaemia, particularly anaemia caused by chronic kidney disease or cancer chemotherapy. It acts as an erythropoiesis stimulant and functions as an agonist at the erythropoietin receptor. The drug is designed to offer reduced administration frequency compared to first-generation treatments—typically once per week or once every two weeks. Developed originally by CJ HealthCare (now HK inno.N), it has been licensed for development and commercialization in China by NCPC GeneTech Biotechnology, a subsidiary of North China Pharmaceutical Company. Clinical studies have demonstrated that CJ-40001 has comparable pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, and safety profiles to reference darbepoetin alfa (NESP), supporting its use as an interchangeable alternative[1][3][4][5].
