Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DARE-PDM1 is an investigational pharmaceutical product developed by Daré Bioscience for the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea. It is a novel formulation that delivers diclofenac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), via a proprietary hydrogel for vaginal administration. This approach aims to provide targeted local delivery to the genital tissues and myometrium, potentially reducing systemic side effects commonly associated with oral NSAIDs such as gastrointestinal disturbances. The product has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials involving premenopausal women with symptomatic primary dysmenorrhea and demonstrated positive topline results in terms of safety, pharmacokinetics (PK), and exploratory efficacy endpoints—showing statistically significant reductions in pelvic/vaginal and lower back pain compared to placebo. If successful through further development, DARE-PDM1 could become the first-in-category treatment offering an alternative route of administration for managing menstrual pain[1][2][3][4][5][7].
