Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DARE-VVA1 is an investigational, proprietary intravaginal formulation of tamoxifen developed by Daré Bioscience for the treatment of moderate to severe vulvar and vaginal atrophy (VVA), particularly in postmenopausal women. It is designed as a non-hormonal therapy for symptoms such as dyspareunia (painful intercourse) associated with VVA, especially targeting populations who cannot or should not use estrogen therapies—such as women with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) breast cancer or those at risk for breast cancer. Tamoxifen is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM); while it acts as an estrogen antagonist in breast tissue, it exerts estrogen-like effects on vaginal tissues when administered locally. Clinical studies have shown that DARE-VVA1 results in minimal systemic exposure to tamoxifen and demonstrates improvements in vaginal cytology parameters and symptoms like dryness and dyspareunia[2][3][5][6][7]. The product aims to address the unmet need for safe, effective non-hormonal treatments for VVA.
