Overview

Darglitazone is a synthetic compound belonging to the thiazolidinedione class, which are peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) agonists. Thiazolidinediones act as insulin sensitizers and are primarily developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus by improving insulin sensitivity in adipose tissue, muscle, and liver. Darglitazone was investigated as an antidiabetic agent but did not reach the market. Its mechanism of action involves activation of PPARγ, leading to modulation of genes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism.
