daridorexant

Daridorexant is a small molecule, dual orexin receptor antagonist indicated for the treatment of insomnia in adults. It works by selectively blocking both orexin 1 (OX1R) and orexin 2 (OX2R) receptors, which are involved in promoting wakefulness. By inhibiting these receptors, daridorexant reduces overactive wake signals in the brain, helping patients fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. Unlike benzodiazepines or Z-drugs, it does not interact with GABA receptors and is not classified as a sedative-hypnotic of those classes. Daridorexant was developed to minimize next-morning residual effects while improving sleep quality and daytime functioning. It was approved by the FDA in January 2022 under the brand name Quviviq[3][4][5].
