Overview

Darifenacin is a small molecule antimuscarinic (anticholinergic) drug used to treat symptoms of overactive bladder, such as urinary incontinence, urgency, and frequency. It works by selectively blocking muscarinic acetylcholine receptor M3 in the bladder detrusor muscle, leading to relaxation of the bladder muscle and reduced involuntary contractions. This mechanism helps control urination and reduce episodes of urge incontinence. Darifenacin was originally developed by Novartis and has been marketed under brand names including Enablex and Emselex[1][2][3][4][5].
