Overview

Darotropium bromide (GSK233705) is an inhaled long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) developed by GSK for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It acts as a high-affinity pan-active muscarinic receptor antagonist and functions as a bronchodilator. Clinical studies have shown that it produces rapid bronchodilation in COPD patients but does not sustain this effect over 24 hours, making it unsuitable for once-daily dosing. The drug has been evaluated in Phase I and II clinical trials for safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and efficacy in COPD[2][4][5][6].
