Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DARPin Ec1 is an engineered scaffold protein belonging to the designed ankyrin repeat protein (DARPin) class. It has a molecular weight of approximately 18.6 kDa and binds with high picomolar affinity (KD = 68 pM) to the epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM), a transmembrane glycoprotein overexpressed in various epithelial malignancies. DARPin Ec1 is primarily developed as a diagnostic imaging agent (when radiolabeled with isotopes such as technetium-99m, gallium-68, indium-111, or iodine-125) for single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) or positron emission tomography (PET) to visualize EpCAM expression in tumors and select patients for EpCAM-targeted therapies. It has been evaluated in a Phase I clinical trial for the visualization of EpCAM-expressing lung cancer.
