DAS181

DAS181 is a recombinant fusion protein antiviral drug developed for the treatment and prevention of respiratory viral infections, primarily influenza and parainfluenza. It consists of a sialidase catalytic domain derived from Actinomyces viscosus fused to an epithelial surface anchoring heparin-binding domain from human amphiregulin. The drug acts by cleaving sialic acid residues from the surface of respiratory epithelial cells, which are used as entry receptors by influenza and parainfluenza viruses, thereby inhibiting viral attachment and internalization. Unlike traditional antivirals that target viral proteins, DAS181 targets host cell receptors, reducing the risk of resistance development. It is administered via inhalation as a nebulized dry powder formulation[1][2][5][7].
