Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Daucosterol linoleate is a **steroid glycoside ester** isolated from sweet potato (*Ipomoea batatas*) and related species. It is the linoleic acid ester of daucosterol—a phytosterol known as β-sitosterol-3-O-β-D-glucoside. Daucosterol linoleate has demonstrated **anticancer activity**, especially against estrogen receptor (ER)-positive breast cancer cells, by inhibiting cell viability, inducing dose-dependent apoptosis, and interfering with tumor growth and metastasis in animal models. Key mechanisms include the downregulation of anti-apoptotic proteins (Bcl-xl, Bcl-2, XIAP), upregulation of pro-apoptotic proteins (Bax, Bad), activation of caspase-dependent apoptosis pathways, suppression of the PI3K/Akt/NF-κB signaling axis, and inhibition of factors tied to metastasis and angiogenesis such as VEGF, MMP2, and MMP9[3][6].
