Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Daunorubicin and cytarabine liposome is a liposomal-encapsulated formulation that delivers daunorubicin and cytarabine in a fixed 5:1 molar ratio. This formulation is designed to improve the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) by sustaining exposure to cytotoxic concentrations of both drugs. It has demonstrated improved overall survival compared to the traditional "7+3" regimen in newly diagnosed therapy-related AML (tAML) or AML with myelodysplasia-related changes (AML-MRC). The drug was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2017 and by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in 2018 for these specific indications.
